My wife has taught me to appreciate a good obituary. In her career as a museum professional, she has read countless obits and has helped countless people find obits of long lost relatives. A well written obituary is a powerful piece of history, and a poorly written one is evidence of missing information, that may be gone forever.
Mr. Lux Narayan is a very intelligent man. He really shows how the world likes to focus on the bad side of the situation, even though if we focused on what is good it would be harder to negative. I liked how he incorporated the humor by saying his wife thinks he's crazy for having scrambled eggs...... and a look at who died today! This was one of the more enjoyable TED talks I have watch.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone should take to heart what he said because he is right we look at the bad things instead of the good. Thanks Mr. Lux for opening my eyes to do a better job at finding the good things in life.
ReplyDeleteI thinks it strange how in obituary.they describe a person in a few words. I wonder if the words describe the person. I hope I cant describe myself in a few words. I liked how he said that we should use our talents to help the world, not to be famous.
ReplyDeleteMr. Lux Narayan is definitely right on this one. We as a population spend way too much time focusing on what is wrong with the world and how bad the world is, that we forget to take time to leave our legacy and do something that will make a positive difference down the road. We need to focus less on what we'll be remembered for today and more on what we will be remembered for doing when we die. Focus on making a change.
ReplyDeleteI really think it's crazy to think how people notice how much easier it is to over-express someone who was popular when the die. When we die, we want to notice the things that are so great about a person. We focus a lot on the people that did something spectacular in the world, other than someone who did something good for the world.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with what he is saying in the article. At the beginning about obituaries being wrote in the news paper. That is a chance for you to learn about this person who passed away. To learn about the family that is still living with out this loved one. We should focus on the life of the person instead of everything they could have done wrong. You want to be remembered for the great accomplishments you had in your life instead of the little things that happened through out the years.
